A train at a station
Daily writing prompt
What bothers you and why?

Perhaps others will have picked far more worthy issues such as climate change or social injustice but to be honest what is bothering me today is train timetables. Although thinking about it surely those larger issues should make you incandescent, angry, aggravated and frustrated rather than simply bothered. Whereas everyday inconveniences, such as train timetables, are bothersome.

There, now I’ve justified my petty pick I should really answer the second part of the question – why? Well over the last couple of days I’ve been lucky enough to be able to walk to wherever I’m trying to get too. However today we needed to use the train & it shows how quickly you get used to being in control of your own schedule. Now that I was back in the hands of the train companies, I was irked.

A train at a station

In theory I’m a big fan of train travel as when it works it is the best way to cover large distances. But there’s the rub – when it works. Today we have two trains an hour, which sounds reasonable until I point out that both trains leave within 5 minutes of each other. That means there are 55 minutes with no trains. This makes no sense & is extremely bothersome.

When I’m walking I know how long it will take me to get from A to B and if I’m dawdling, I can speed up. When travelling by train I am at the mercy of others which can be stressful. This is yet another reason why I love walking, being in control of my own destiny is soothing as I trust me more than I trust the train operators!

That’s how I stroll.
