Which activities make you lose track of time?

Well I couldn’t ignore today’s question! I almost always lose track of time when I go for a woodland walk. I usually set out with a route in mind but then I get distracted thinking this path looks interesting or that’s a particularly lovely tree and suddenly I have no idea where I am.

The funny thing is I rarely panic in these situations. If I’m lost in a town or city then there is an increasing sense of anxiety whereas in the forest I tend to chuckle & assume I’ll find my way out eventually.

This makes no sense as if I’m lost in a built-up area it’s much easier to find my way out. I can either get public transport or at least use my phone to find an escape route. In a forest these options are not available and yet I remain calm.

Whether it’s being surrounded by beauty, the calming effect of the trees or simply my resistance to head back to reality; whatever the reason the relaxing properties of a woodland walk makes it easy to lose track of time. So if you ever have trouble finding me, head to the forest.

That’s how I stroll.

Great mind set, I always maintain that one can never be lost, only misplaced. After all, in your case you knew you were in the woods and indeed which wood, just not too clear where you were. All good character building finding the right path out.
