What could you do more of?
I wasn’t planning on answering today’s question as I thought: “I can’t say walking again!” but then that was when I read the question first thing after a relaxing walk into work. However as you can see I am now answering the prompt, so what changed & what is my answer?
Today seemed to be one of those days, I had a plan of what I wanted to get done but after a crazy meeting with increasingly daft requests and then helping my teammates make sense of the bizarre enquiries they were also fielding, I was feeling fairly frazzled.
Then, as if by magic, a message from a friend popped up asking if I fancied a lunchtime stroll. Yes please! The walk definitely helped but so did the sunshine, the fresh air and most of all enjoying a giggle with a friend.
So in part my answer is walking, as I always feel the benefit of going for a stroll but I guess more than that it’s enjoying the unexpected gifts life gives you. Today I could havd easily said no & just gone for a faster walk on my own. It would have still given me a break from the craziness of the day and I would have still felt revived but would I have felt as happy? Certainly contented but not the sense of happiness I felt after seeing a friendly face.
What could I do more of? Say no to work and yes to life. That may sound glib, I know we all have bills to pay so I’m not suggesting you quit your job and set off on a hike around the country – however tempting that may be! But rather remember that work is a means to an end, it pays the bills and that’s that. For most of us anyway. So don’t feel guilty about prioritising yourself over your job.
That’s how I stroll.
