That’s a rather grandiose title isn’t it? Almost sounds like a science-fiction novel rather than a humble little blog post but I like it so I’m sticking with it.
Anyhoo what is my time conumdrum? Well aside from the walks as part of my commute or as a form of tranport I haven’t been walking much lately. Partly because of the weather but also because there seems to be a lot going on at the moment so on quiet days it’s nice to just veg out and do very little. A few times I’ve thought; well as the weather is too bleak for a walk, I might as well grab my laptop and do some tippy-tap typing on my blog. However I’ve then realised that I’m caught in a Catch 22, you see when I’m walking more frequently I have plenty of ideas for posts but not enough time to write them but when I’m not strolling as much I have the time but lack the inspiration. Hence the time conundrum, when I have it I have nothing to write and when I have things to write, I don’t have the time to type.
If you’ll indulge me I’m going to take a quick detour to comment on Catch 22 as it’s an example of a book that is lauded as a classic but I have to confess I was somewhat underwhelmed by. It was fine and certainly had some amusing moments but aside from coining the term Catch 22 I’m not entirely sure why it’s seen as such a classic and often described as one of the funniest books of the 20th century – I can only assume these people have not read anything by PG Wodehouse, Tom Sharpe or Douglas Adams.
But now I should return to my own Catch 22, or my time conundrum. I think part of the problem is that the less you do, the less you want to do. Once I start to ‘veg out’ I become increasingly reluctant to stop, I may think I could to do this or that but I end up embracing the idea of manyana and continue to ‘veg out’. There is a small part of me that is quite pleased by this conundrum as it proves a point I made in an earlier post about energising strolls – the fact that while a walk can be a soothing stroll, helping you to relax and unwind, it can also be energising. For me this energising quality leads to several ideas of things to write however generally when I get to the end of my walk I have other things to get on with and do not have time to write on this blog. But when I do have the time, I’ve either run out of ideas or lack the inspiration to expand upon the vague notes I may have added to the drafts section.
Now it occurs to me I don’t really have a point, only to share the irony of wanting more time to write and then when I do have the time I don’t know what to type. As with most conundrums there are no easy answers so I will continue to walk as often as I can, make random drafts and decipher them as and when I have the time & the energy. I will try not to worry about the occassions when I have the time but lack the energy as this blog is meant to be enjoyable, not a chore so if that means there are weeks of no posts, then so be it, I know it will always be there as and when I need it.
That’s how I stroll.
